Quarters is a good all-around choice. Also Sheraton Downtown Philadelphia Hotel, Sonesta Hotel Philadelphia,Courtyard
Marriott. (It’s an easy trip from Center City to University City by taxi/Uber,
public transportation, bike share, or walking.)
Conference Venue: The conference will be in Penn’s ARCH
Building, at the intersection of 36th Street and Locust Walk, the major campus
walkway. Enter the ARCH building from the 36th Street entrance, where you will
find a registration desk. Please register at the Registration Desk in the lobby
of the ARCH Building. Sessions will be in Room 208 on the second floor. Google Map

Arriving by Taxi or Uber: Coming from the airport, instruct the driver
to drop you at 36th and Spruce Streets. Then walk North on the 36th Street
walkway until you reach the ARCH Building. Coming from the 30th Street Amtrak
Station, or from Center City, instruct the driver to drop you at 36th and
Walnut Streets. Then walk South on 36th (Street) Walk.
Philadelphia Sights and Attractions: If you plan to arrive ahead or stay after the
program ends, the City of Philadelphia has excellent museums (including the
Penn museums as well as the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Barnes Foundation,
and the Rodin Museum). It is also a historic city that provides tours of
Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, Constitution Center, Betsy Ross House,

Using Public Transportation in Philadelphia: The public transportation system is run by
SEPTA. A single ride fare on a bus, trolley, or subway is 2.25$ (Exact fares
must be used. There is no change on buses. Some subway stops have a booth and
vending machines for tokens).

More Than you Ever Wanted to Know About Various
Ways of Getting to/from Penn:
From the Airport by Train: The Philadelphia International Airport is located in the Southwest
section of the city, approximately twenty minutes from the University of
Pennsylvania campus.
Train service
from the airport to the Penn Campus is available through SEPTA’s Airport
Express Train which leaves every half-hour. The fare is around 10.00$. The trip
takes approximately twenty-five minutes. From the University City Station it is
a 10-15 minute walk to the conference venue.
From 30th Street Station: You can take a taxi or take a 10-15 minute walk to campus.
From Center City Hotels: You can take a taxi, a bus, an underground trolley, or walk.
Depending on the
location of your hotel, the walk will take about 30 minutes (you should walk
along Walnut Street and cross the Walnut Street Bridge).
The SEPTA 21 Bus
runs along Walnut Street going west. The 21 Bus will take you to 36th and
Walnut Streets.
You can find
underground trolley stops (GREEN Line) on Market Street at 15th, 19th, 22nd
Streets. If you board on 19th or 22nd Street you use the staircase on the North
side of Market Street. You can take any line, except the # 10. You should get
off at the 36th Street stop and then walk South on 36th Street to the ARCH
building.
By Car: The closest parking facility is on Walnut St.
between 37th & 38th Streets on the north side (access via Walnut Street).

There is metered
parking along both sides of Walnut Street. Note that you cannot park on the
right side of Walnut Street between 4-6 PM.
Leaving: Hailing
a taxi / meeting an Uber driver: you can hail taxis at 36th and Spruce Streets
(to maximize probability of success you might want to walk West to 27th Street
or East toward 34th where the hospital entrance is located); at 36th and Walnut
Streets, or at 36th and Chestnut Streets (a slightly longer walk, but there is
a hotel and traffic on Chestnut heads into Center City).

Catching a bus to
Center City: walk to 36th and Chestnut Streets to catch the 21 bus. It runs on
Chestnut Street all the way to 2nd Street.
Alternatively,
you can board the underground trolley (GREEN Line) on 36th Street between
Walnut and Chestnut Streets. You can get off on 19th or 15th Street (and Market
St.)
Finally, you can
take the Market-Frankford subway (toward Frankford) from 34th and Market
Streets and get off on 15th and Market Streets.
