Sociology provides an understanding of how societies,
cities, neighborhoods, communities, organizations, professional
associations, families and small groups are organized, maintained,
altered or disintegrated, and how individual conduct is related
to group experiences. It also introduces students to the concepts
and methods of social science research, and provides them with tools
for careful analysis of many types of human relationships. Sociology
can help students achieve a better comprehension of their place
in the family, the community, the workplace, and other group situations.
At the same time, sociology provides an excellent background for
careersin a variety of occupations: teaching, scholarly and applied
social research, social work, criminology, demography, journalism,
management in the public and private sectors, administration, government,
law, and medicine.
