| Societies regulate their members’ behavior through a variety
of formal and informal means of social control. This concentration
examines such questions as: what forms of social control are considered
legitimate? What groups are able to exercise such control? Which
individuals or groups are socially defined as deviant, and what
are the results of such judgments? Under what circumstance is deviance
treated as criminal?
