Assistant Professor of Sociology

Tenure-track Position

The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, a four-year undergraduate college of the University of Pittsburgh, invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Sociology, beginning September 2008. Initial appointment is for three years. Teaching load is four courses (12 credits) per semester. Ph.D. in Sociology strongly preferred but candidates close to completion will be considered. teaching experience at the college level required.

Sociology is a four-person department in the Division of Social Sciences. It coordinates and offers a four-year Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and provides support for the general education curriculum. Each department member teaches introductory level courses in Sociology and/or Social Problems each term. Applicants should have teaching and research interests in criminology, social psychology, family, deviance, or minorities. International, interdisciplinary or multicultural perspectives strongly preferred. Candidates should also exhibit enthusiasm for and proficiency in teaching undergraduates, show potential for research and professional development, and be willing to participate in all phases of departmental, divisional, and college activities.

To apply, candidates should send current curriculum vitae; a statement about teaching and research interests as specifically related to UPJ and its program; current official undergraduate and graduate transcripts; and any materials related to their teaching experience, including recent course syllabi, assignments, and student opinion surveys.
