    1. 'Introduction to GIS'

      Provides an introduction to GIS tools, applications and issues. Covers many of the basic questions regarding the geographic display of social science data. Workshop will provide time for hands on use of a variety of GIS tools.


    3. 'Data Archiving in the 21st Century'

      This workshop will explore the impact of new technologies on the way data archives and data libraries do business. Administrative, technical, and public service aspects will be covered.


    5. 'Advanced Use of WWW as a Means of Delivering Data'

      Users with a background and experience in using the WWW will be introduced to concepts, issues, procedures, and tools for making data available to their users through the WWW. Topics included: security, basics of cgi-bin scripts, using traditional tools such as SAS in a WWW environment, design issues, functional differences between WWW clients.

    1. 'Advanced GIS Techniques'

      This workshop provides more in-depth information for the person already familier with basic GIS applications. Participants will receive hands-on practice with GIS tools and gain insight on appropriate applications for the use of GIS in social science research.

    3. 'Preservation of Magnetic Media'
    4. Gene Hickok, National Media Laboratory

      This workshop will focus on the best ways for ensuring the long term preservation of magnetic media. The qualities of various media will be discussed as well as techniques for ensuring the full life of the media and preservation of the information it contains.

    5. 'International Data Resources'

      We offer a half-day workshop on international data sources. The workshop will have two parts: the first part will treat locating and using published data resources; the second part will review strategies for locating and accessing data resources from a variety of sources including internet and web servers and data archives. Each session will consist of presentation and demonstration of the material followed by hands-on practice with the material presented.
