EAST's Mission Statement
Economies and Societies in Transition provides organizational,
computing, and administrative support for the following tasks:
- Applications for research grants and contracts.
- Establishment of a database and information processing methods
for economies and societies in transition.
- Interdiciplinary research on economies and societies in transition.
- International exchange programs with academic institutions,
including data and research centers, in the "transition" countries.
- Consultation and assistance to domestic and foreign policy makers
- Sponsorship of educational programs on economic transition at
Penn and abroad.
- Dissemination of knowledge through seminars, conferences, and
publications, as well as an electronic newsletter on the Internet, which
would be accessable worldwide.
